In June, Twitter warned developers that it would soon enforce stricter guidelines around use of its API. Some developers, however, aren't going to let it happen without a fight.

Nova Spivack, founder and CEO of social media dashboard Bottlenose and an advisor to Klout, has started an online petition on Change.org asking the startup to keep its ecosystem open.

"This petition isn't about terms of service, and what Twitter's contractual duties may or may not be," Spivack wrote in an emailed statement.
